All Africa Games: Ajayi, Sokari gives Nigeria victory over Ghana

Two second half goals from Junior Ajayi and Kingsley Sokari
ensured that Nigeria got off to a bright start in their quest for gold
in the male football event of the ongoing All Africa Games as they
beat Ghana 2-0 on Wednesday.
Wednesday’s pairing reignited the football rivalry that has existed
between Nigeria and Ghana, but it was the Dream Team VI that
emerged victorious with their 2-0 win over the Black Meteors of
Ghana.
Yet to taste action in Congo owing to the last minute pull out of
Egypt, Coach Samson Siasia was desperate to start on the right
note in Wednesday’s game against the defending champions,
Ghana.
Siasia had warned his players that they would need to take their
chances if they would come out victorious against their Ghanaian
counterparts.
Although it was not the best of performance, the Dream Team
registered seven shots on target and scored two goals.
The first goal of Wednesday’s tie did not come till the 55th minute
when Junior Ajayi carefully tapped in a cross from the right flank
to give Nigeria the lead.
Ghana, which played 0-0 in their first game against Senegal,
pressed hard for an equalizer but they were caught flat footed
when a defence splitting pass was given to Kingsley Sokari and
the Enyimba star with a sublime finish buried the ball into the net
to double the lead for the Dream Team VI and effectively kill the
game.
With the development, Nigeria looks almost certain for a place in
the semi-finals but they still have a group game left against
Senegal.
