Sultan Announces End Of Ramadan The
Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar III has
announced today Friday, July 17 as Eid el-Fitr
day, bringing an end to the 2015 Ramadan
Nigerian Muslims are now expected to join
their muslim counterparts around the world
in festivities marking the end of the annual
month of deprivation and spiritual
Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III.
This announcement make today Friday, the
first day of the Islamic month of Shawwal
1436 AH. Sultan Abubakar said that the new
moon of Shawwal was sighted in 10 states
of the federation. The 10 states include,
Kano, Borno, Kaduna, Niger, Sokoto,
Nasarawa Jigawa, Yobe, Bauchi and Kebbi.
The sultan revealed that the sighting of the
new moon was reported by various Muslim
elders and groups from across the country.
This sighting has been verified and
authenticated by the National Moon Sighting
Committee and that of the Sultanate Council.
“Consequent upon this, today Friday, 17th
day of July becomes the first day of Shawwal
1436 AH.and the day of the Eid el Fitr,” Mr.
Abubakar said. He asked all Muslim faithfuls
to pray for the peace and unity of Nigeria so
that the nation will continue to strive and
